One of the first ship of the US Navy was the Hannah, a fishing schooner of 78 tons, purchased by George Washington in order to fight back the powerful British Navy. The schooner Hannah first sailed, as a warship, on September 5th 1775. On her ast there was a white flag with a green pine and a motto 'An appeal to
Heaven'.
