Over 60 Algerine class minesweepers, were built between 1942 and 1945. It would seem that this class of ship developed from the Halcyon class minesweeper, and retained some features of these earlier ships. They were fitted with magnetic, acoustic, and mechanical mine-sweeping equipment. These ships, having been built in the UK and Canada, later served in Canadian and most western alliance navies.
